Welcome to Sabre's Sanctum
This website is devoted to showcasing the creative endeavours of Firequill; however, this mostly consists of visual art. As well as art and things, there are also a number of tutorials available to hopefully help improve the skills of beginner artists as well as a forum to share your ideas and creations. After all this time, I've finally made a new tutorial! And one that belongs in the 'Colouring' section of tutorials! Huzzah!

It's been longer since I wrote an update here than I thought...! Or longer than it feels like, anyway. I've been having a lot of difficulty thinking of things to draw or just getting myself motivated to do much at all, so there haven't been many content updates since I got back. It makes me feel sort of bad since I would have liked to have been making tutorials at the very least or something, but instead I've just been wasting a lot of time either doing nothing or playing Pokemon games or something while struggling to feel motivated or inspired at all.
Hopefully I can get back to making art and tutorials and things soon enough, but it's been quite a challenge so far...
Anyway, I also feel like I want to change the look of this website again (though the last time I 'changed the look', it was only very minor and still looked very much the same as it does now...). Every time I look at it, I think things could look a lot better, though I also have little idea what to actually DO to make things look better. I keep thinking that maybe I should extend the header and footer so they touch the sides of the screen while the content between them still stays in the middle of the screen... But then I don't know whether to keep the horizontal navigation bar at the top the same colour or not or whether there should be a background colour of some kind behind the 'main content' of the site so it doesn't just look like it's floating all disorganisedly in the middle or what.
Changing the look of the site isn't really a priority right now or anything and I'll probably be thinking more about making art instead, but if I stumble upon any aesthetically pleasing solutions to my web design conundrum, I'll probably end up devoting more time to updating the site than anything else.

Unfortunately. Uh... I apparently got little art done at all while with Pseudolonewolf due to not really having anything specific in mind to draw and also because it's sort of frustrating trying to draw on the tiny 10.1" (1024x600) screen of my laptop/netbook/whatever while also knowing it displays colours differently to my desktop monitor. It was also much nicer spending time with him instead of drawing.
I did draw some sketches though and I've uploaded a few of those to my Photobucket account thing. I suppose I'll hopefully be doing more art now though to pass the time until I can see my boyfriend again...!

I still haven't done much artwork, though I've been busy with university assignments as well as beta testing MARDEK 3, as I probably mentioned in the previous update. I've also been having a lot of difficulty feeling motivated enough to make any complete pieces of artwork. All the art I've been doing has just been sketches, though there aren't many that are really worth showing even in my Photobucket gallery.
But uh... hopefully I can get back to making some finished pieces of artwork soonish or something! Though I'm also leaving to go to the UK to see Pseudolonewolf on the 6th of March, though I'll have a little laptop thing and my tablet with me, unlike the previous times, so uh... maybe I'll motivatedly make art then!

Since I've had to focus on university things for much of this month, I haven't had much time for art or website-related things. The only art I've managed to get done are a few sketches and things, and I don't know if I'll be able to work on any larger digital paintings for a while. I'm going to be busy trying to get assignments done particularly quickly since I am also going to be going to the UK again to see my boyfriend, Pseudolonewolf, early in March (There are assignments that aren't due until the middle and the end of March). And before I go, I'll also be beta testing his game, MARDEK 3, thus consuming more of my time?!
It's strange to think that I'm actually lacking in spare time since I usually have copious amounts of it... Like more than I could ever possibly know what to do with, but now I barely have any time to draw or paint and now that I don't, I really WANT to paint things! More than I usually do! Woe! (And though I say I'm rather busy, most of my time is spent procrastinating anyway with me slowly, slowly making tiny amounts of progress throughout the day mostly due to needing to think about assignment-related decisions and feeling unsure of what I'm doing and such.)
So yes. I wish I could say there's a new tutorial or, at the very least, some new artwork, but uh... maybe one day!

I've made myself an art blog specifically so I can write about things I've drawn on the days I've drawn them, why I consider them successful or not, how I might be able to improve, and so on. I'll also be sharing techniques I'm experimenting with or tried to improve on, so maybe it will give any readers ideas for things they themselves can try or something
It is here.
It's not fully functional yet, but at least I can submit things at all and they can be viewed and whatnot. I created that mainly because I'd like to see if it motivates me to draw more.

It's not quite 2010 for me yet, as there are still two hours left to wait, though I probably don't have a whole lot to say about that...! I might not have any proper New Year's Resolutions this year other than things I'd likely try to do anyway like make more tutorials, put more effort into improving at drawing, finish more art and try to beat this year's number of finished, gallery-worthy artworks.
But anyway, here's a tutorial!

I've just finished writing a lineart tutorial which is now available for viewing in the tutorials section! Hurrah! Or you can just click on the image below to take you directly to the tutorial.

I think the forum is at least functional now, though I still need to do some adjustments to the aesthetics. I might leave that until tomorrow though since I seem to be running out of energy to locate and fix errors and make... other adjustments to old, difficult-to-read code.

Well, I THINK everything is working okay. The forum isn't though, so I suppose I'll be spending the day fixing that.
--
I think I'm going to attempt to upload the new site now and this may be a clumsy process... Hopefully I won't break anything as I try this...

I'm almost finished with the new version of the website. So almost finished that I've only got a few minor things to work out and will probably be able to change the site to the new one within the next few days, assuming I haven't forgotten anything critically important.
Other than that, I don't think there's anything else of any significance to mention.
